December 2nd - Adam & Eve

Adam and Eve

Today's reading comes from Genesis 2:7-24, where we see God creating man and woman. God says that it is not good for the man to live alone, which is why He creates woman to be his helper and companion. We humans are made for each other, not just as couples, but as friends, families, communities. We cannot exist alone; we must rely upon others and, in turn, allow them to lean upon us.
We remember also that it was through Jesus that we were created, and yet He chose to become like His own creations.

At Christmas we celebrate how Jesus was born just like us. He was tiny and helpless and had to rely completely upon other human beings. I believe that if our God could humble Himself to accept help from people, we must never be too proud to admit that we cannot survive alone. Jesus also told us that whenever we treat someone well, we are loving Him. This Christmas, as we celebrate Jesus becoming man, I shall try to remember to thank God for the people He has put around me, and I shall endeavour to treat them all more lovingly.

The symbol for our Jesse Tree is two people holding hands. As an activity we made a paper people chain and wrote the names of friends and family whom we wish to pray for this Advent. We shall try to pray for them each night.

Join me in praying the prayer from B's book: "Dear God, thank you for giving us each other to love."
